SOIL PREPARATION
For soil preparation, the company uses the TTS Delta Combi II soil cutter, one of the most powerful forest soil processing machines. To achieve good forest regeneration results, soil in clearcut areas must be prepared before reforestation, i.e., during the previous year. This creates optimal microenvironmental conditions for young seedlings.
Soil preparation:
- prevents or significantly reduces competition from unwanted trees, grasses, and herbaceous plants;
- ensures an appropriate regime of light, soil moisture, and nutrients;
- reduces the risk of insect damage (for example, pine weevil), as insects avoid exposed mineral soil;
- reduces the risk of frost heaving for young seedlings.
Benefits of soil preparation:
- easier planting of new forest stands;
- reduced forest regeneration costs (due to a higher percentage of successfully established seedlings);
- significantly easier cultivation and maintenance of young stands.
In 2024, SIA “ACA Timber” prepared approximately 976 hectares of soil. We provide soil preparation services in the Kurzeme and Zemgale regions, and—when working with larger areas—in Vidzeme as well. Our soil preparation clients include both major companies (AS Latvijas valsts meži, SIA INGKA Investments Latvia, SIA INGKA Investments Management) as well as private forest owners.
